Health classes explained

What the four tiers mean and what determines which one you land in.

Carriers organize term pricing by rate class. The names shift slightly between companies, but the structure is the same: Preferred Plus (Super Preferred or Preferred Best), Preferred, Standard Plus, Standard, and table ratings above. Smokers and tobacco users slot into their own set of classes at raised rates.

What underwriters look at

Height and weight, blood pressure, cholesterol, family history of early heart disease or cancer, driving history, prescription record, job and hobbies, and tobacco. Top class demands clean marks nearly everywhere; Preferred is more forgiving; Standard Plus and Standard accept managed conditions like controlled high blood pressure.

How to use the quote tool

When you answer the health question, be honest: Excellent pairs with Preferred Plus, Very good with Preferred, Good with Standard Plus, Average with Standard. The quote reflects your pick; the carrier confirms the real class later. Unsure? Get quotes at two levels to see the gap, then let the application sort it out. Picking a rosy class does not cut the final price; it just throws off the estimate.

When a health condition is part of your story, Susman Insurance Agency can find carriers whose rules are more flexible for that condition—sometimes more important than the advertised rate.
